Artist Bio // Peeyush Bavalia

Peeyush Bavalia (b. 1988, Satara, Maharashtra) is an emerging contemporary artist whose practice draws deep inspiration from the Himalayan mountains, the sea, and their poetic relationship with the moon. His work explores landscapes not merely as geographical spaces, but as emotional and contemplative terrains shaped by memory, movement, and stillness.

Peeyush began his creative journey with a Diploma in Animation and VFX from Frameboxx (2008), gaining a strong foundation in visual storytelling and composition. After working as a generalist, he made a decisive shift toward fine art and completed his Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai (2015). During his academic training, he extensively explored water-based mediums, including watercolours, inks, and acrylics, while developing a strong engagement with creative landscape painting and the compositional strategies of old masters.

The COVID-19 lockdown marked a significant turning point in his practice, deepening his engagement with drawing and painting and helping him consolidate a distinct visual language. Since then, he has maintained a consistent studio practice, producing works that balance observation with introspection.

An avid trekker, Peeyush is driven by an ongoing commitment to experience and document the Great Himalayas and other mountain ranges across the world, engaging with them one summit at a time. His works attempt to capture the quiet power of these landscapes—their vastness, rhythm, and their enduring dialogue with the moon.

His artworks are held in private collections in Mumbai, Delhi, London, Dubai, Kerala, and Pune

All artworks and photos are original produced by the artist.
